HAPPY YEAR COURSE 2016/17! I'm happy to see you again. Let's start to organise ourselves with some information. Remember that when you start the year course you should be updated with some information. This outline helps me to do the bases of my programming: 1- Year Calendar, to organise your course. http://www.ceice.gva.es/web/centros-docentes/calendario-escolar 2- International year and festivities: remember to celebrate 6 holidays/festivities at least: Halloween, Christmas, Peace day, Valentine's, Easter, Reading week/month. And obviously some of the traditional days of your community, i.e. Fallas. http://en.unesco.org/celebrations/international-years This year 2017 is the International Year of Sustainable Tourism:  http://media.unwto.org/press-release/2015-12-07/united-nations-declares-2017-international-year-sustainable-tourism-develop 3- Laws in the Valencian Community. JOLLY PHONICS METHOD

Imagen
This year course I'm planning to do phonics once a week with my students. Looking for one specific and clear methodology I've asked one of my friends in Gloria Fuertes (Alzira), Vanessa is teaching Infant education there and she says the method is quite good. Their 3yo students are doing this 80% of the weekly time. It's not my case, but my students are older than hers. So I'm doing some Courses by the CEFIRE and we will see how it works. Here you have some more information about this native methodology for reading and learning English. Link:  http://jollylearning.co.uk/ Basically the students learn phonics with an easy way, through songs, rhymes, tricks, books and workshops. This is the information provided by the web: "How does Jolly Phonics work? Using a synthetic phonics approach, Jolly Phonics teaches children the five key skills for reading and writing. The programme continues through school enabling the teaching of essential grammar, spe...

STUDY TECHNIQUES

Imagen
Along your student career a person could learn different study techniques depending on the degree or level. But the most important to know is to adapt what works to you individually to the different circumstances and moments in your life. That's why there are thousands of techniques. But to shorten the length of time I have selected some documents to help my students. 1- Complete guide for Primary students: you can download the complete document for free. Link:   http://boscosprimaria.blogspot.com.es/p/tecnicas-de-estudio.html 2- A complete section by Monica Diz to develope techniques, tips, resources, practice...in her blog Link:  http://monicadizorienta.blogspot.com.es/search/label/T%C3%A9cnicas%20de%20estudio But that's one of my favourite sections:  http://monicadizorienta.blogspot.com.es/2013/02/tecnicas-de-estudio-fichas-de-trabajo_4.html 3- Secondary and adults education guide, by Junta de Amdalucía. ARTS, CRAFTS AND FUN

Imagen
This month we have presented in Valencia our book of Boreal Editions called "ARTS, CRAFTS & FUN." It is printed in Valencia and you can buy it at Casa del Libro , in Paseo Ruzafa 11 , Valencia . Click on here:  Buy one book! I am one of the co-authors of the book, it has been created with love by professionals of teaching English in the Valencian Community. If you need more info please contact us. The main idea is to have a book written in English language to work Art in the first cicle of Primary education, from 6 to 8 years old. The most important characteristic is that it includes much more words in English to work than other Art Books but less than a text book. I hope you enjoy it! If you are a teacher in Valencia, you can ask for a copy for free! Thanks to all the rest of co-authors! I am nobody without you!

HALLOWEEN - How do you prepare the classroom?

Imagen
This week all the English teachers are worried about how to prepare the classrooms in order to become a Land of terror ready for Halloween. I leave here as an example all the process I followed to turn my classroom into a fancy dress party room. Follow the simple steps and you will have a nice effect with little money. 1- Pile the chairs and tables up in a part of the classroom in which they cannot disturb. 2- Organise the materials in the shelves where they cannot be seen. 3- Seal the Windows with black plastic bags. 4- Cover the big teacher's desks with dark clothes. 5- Decorate it with plumkins, chemical junks like the glass tubes from the science classroom. 6- Switch on ultraviolet lights. 7- Buy liquid chalk to paint some ghosts and letters. 8- Prepare a table with sweets and a poster of 'Trick or treat'. 9- Ask older students to prepare a short dance of the song 'Thriller' by Michael Jackson. 10- Meet all the teachers and ask them to participate. Collaborative project for English Teachers

Imagen
Nowadays there are not so much English teachers who know that there is a new platform for collaborative sharing of teaching and learning experiences. This web is full of resources and examples of activities and issues from different levels and everything is in English! I encourage you to participate and share as I did, I will follow this year course. One of the advantages is that they'll give you a certificate for your school and your students could see their work is important to other people. The main point is that it is ruled by English teachers as me and I have confidence in them because I know them personally. Another strong point is that they give you facilities and tools, also it's free, so think about it and start next september. Link: http://theesltimes.blogspot.com.es/

Summer Holidays

Imagen
Happy Summer! I've learned a lot this summer about technologies in general, apps, resources, teachers who showed examples of their jobs, etc. Some of the events I had attended in July had been the following: - NOVADORS '13: UJI (Jaume I University) in Castellón, 5th and 6th of July 2013. http://novadors.org/jornades2013/  It's a meeting point for teachers of all levels, where I acomplished my expectations about learning TECH and there's a good environment. They have ten years of experience organizing this kind of courses and each year is better than before. I promisse I'll never leave it apart! Here you are the most part of the lecturers' presentation, although they are in spanish you'll enjoy their energy and the fruit of their work.  http://novadors.org/jornades2013/?p=406  I have learned a lot from them. - EDUCADIGITAL: UPV (Valencian Technical University) in Alcoy (Alicante), 8th and 9th of July 2013. http://www.novadors.or...
